According to Ajay Trehan, Founder and CEO, AuthBridge Research Services, digitization was already making its way in the hiring process but what the Covid-19 pandemic did was expedite its uptake across industries.
Hiring has not been the same like it was in the pre-Covid days. With the world going digital, the HR management is not left behind. Adding to this, the remote onboarding technologies have digitized the hiring processes. Most recruiting teams across companies now have to manage the entire recruitment process, involving shortlisting, interviewing, background screening and onboarding, while working remotely.
According to Ajay Trehan, Founder and CEO, AuthBridge Research Services, digitization was already making its way in the hiring process but what the Covid-19 pandemic did was expedite its uptake across industries
For Trehan, the biggest challenge posed by the pandemic was to go contactless and subsequently automate the tasks which required physical presence.
He said, “Machine Learning (ML) for resume screening, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for automated data collection and structuring, proprietary databases and facial recognition for real-time verification, geo-coordinate mapping for digital address verification and custom workflows to create a seamless employee onboarding experience, came to the rescue.” After the lockdown, when verifying addresses as physical visits came to a halt, AuthBridge Research Services developed a digital address verification product, iBridge.
According to Trehan, iBridge, which was developed for employee screening and onboarding, helped the clients to continue their hiring and screening processes remotely while ensuring efficiency, data security and quick turnaround time.
Trehan said, “Smart automation based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) authentication technology is needed to craft a suitable solution that is adaptable to different customer needs.”
According to Trehan, smart automation allows digitization of information, document collection and storage, and also information capturing and enhancement using OCR. The technology also enables instantaneous verification with seamless initiation, tracking and review, he said.
Apart from this, he said the automation further allows facial recognition and smart search on the largest databases for real-time and accurate verification; completely digital and contactless GPS enabling triangulated address verification checks and data enhancement and cross referencing to avoid redundant onboarding formalities.
Highlighting that remote onboarding saves costs on two fronts, the spends and cost value of time, Trehan said, “Digitization allows process automation that reduces manual dependency, human errors, paper-based documentation and check level costs. In addition, our real-time verification saves a significant time.”
Moreover, “There is a third front which adds value intangibly by giving a seamless and hassle-free experience to candidates and the hiring team,” he said.
While speaking about the sector-wise hiring trends observed last year, Trehan pointed out that Healthcare, IT, e-commerce, the gig economy and EdTech have seen a rise in hiring.
He said, “According to the latest ‘TeamLease Employment Outlook Report’, the intent to hire was the highest in Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals (39%), Educational Services (34%), Ecommerce and Technology Startups (31%), Knowledge Process Outsourcing (31%), followed by IT (29%).”
He further said, “The IT sector and the gig economy, by virtue of their ecosystem, could switch to complete remote working quickly and were fast to digitize employee screening and onboarding.”
Further, “The Healthcare sector expanded its base with telemedicine, online consultation and increased demand for a skilled workforce to manage diagnostics, medical emergencies, clinical and allied wellness regime,” he added.
He also highlighted that EdTech saw a sudden opportunity, and with the vacuum created by no physical classroom and personal coaching, hiring and onboarding in the EdTech sector saw an upsurge.
Apart from these, “As the markets opened after the lockdown, hiring the labour force and blue-collar workforce increased in industries like manufacturing, transportation, logistics, shared economy, etc,” he said.
Apart from the algorithms, Trehan said, another emerging trend is the integration of remote hiring solutions with the existing HRMS (Human Resource Management System) and ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to consolidate the entire management and experience.
“This makes it possible to manage the entire life cycle of an employee at one place, by removing the redundancy in the process. With some maturity, I also see this space transforming into a SaaS industry,” he concluded.
