The most comprehensive study on discrepancy trends in employee background screening in India. Based on millions of cases processed by AuthBridge from 2018 to 2020.
The overall discrepancy has observed a gradual decline over the past three years. This could be an indicator of awareness among job seekers around the Background Verification process now being followed stringently by companies
he graph demonstrates almost a bell curve for all the three years. It indicates that candidates between the age of 30-44 are more likely to misrepresent their credentials. This is a trend observed every year which quite evidently suggests that up to a certain age, more the number of years of experience, more is the possibility of finding a misrepresented information. Also, it could be inferred that the incentive of fudging information is higher at certain stages of career.
The graph indicates that the higher the number of checks conducted on a case, the higher the chances of finding a discrepancy. In other words, for a thorough background screening, multiple checks are suggested for a given candidate. The optimal number of checks, as suggested by the data, is 4-5 checks per case.
Out of all the major checks conducted, employment verification has contributed maximum to misrepresented information provided by candidates. Employment, Reference, Identity, Police and Database Check – all have witnessed a decrement respectively while Address is the only check among these listed checks that has shown an increment of 9.4% when compared to the previous year
