Faster and fraud-free FASTag dispersal

AuthBridge helped a leading bank minimize potential revenue losses
Top Challenges
  • Quickly validating identity of new customers applying for a FASTag
  • Avoiding potential revenue losses due to a FASTag being used for a wrong vehicular type
  • Streamlining the process of issuance of FASTag

FASTag, a tag used for crossing toll plazas without stopping for a cash transaction, was made mandatory for all private and commercial vehicles by the Government of India in 2019. It is based on radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology and using a prepaid bank account of a customer allows for automatic deduction of toll charges.

Our client, a leading Indian bank, became one of the firsts to disburse FASTag to its customers. The process involved a customer to visit a Point-of-sales (our client in this case) and provide the RC of the vehicle along with KYC details of the vehicle owner.

Amidst the initial rush to supply FASTag to many people, our client anticipated a few frauds creeping in. They were afraid of potential revenue losses particularly in a scenario where the vehicular type in the RC provided is different from the vehicle for which FASTag is used. The toll charges, as we know, are significantly different for a private vehicle and a commercial vehicle.

Results
  • Reduced instances of wrong issuance of FASTag
  • Minimising revenue losses due to incorrect disbursal of FASTag
  • A faster and more streamlined FASTag issuance process
Our methodology

AuthBridge designed a complete onboarding solution for our clients for the issuance of FASTag. Under this solution, a complete KYC verification of new customers was proposed against their given IDs. Then, the RC verification established the vehicle for which FASTag was being applied belonged to the said customer and that the FASTag issued was in accordance to the model, weight, axle and other details of that vehicle.

For a non-existing user, a complete KYC verification was performed before generating FASTag details and associating respective wallet with the same whereas

for an existing user, verification of existing account in the bank was performed. This was followed by RC and vehicle details verification to initiate the FASTag issuance and wallet tagging.

Conclusion

The process helped in minimizing the revenue loss from giving a FAST Tag which is not in accordance to the vehicular type and in authenticating the RC of the vehicle along with the owner details.
