Businessworld : What are you reading at the moment? What did you recently finish reading? What have you learnt from it? I am reading The Apple Way by Jeffrey L. Cruikshank. I just finished reading The High Performance Entrepreneur by Subroto Bagchi. This book is perhaps the best book written for entrepreneurs in India. I am very fond of reading and have read many titles in entrepreneurship development over the years. Some of these books were good but none of these books looked at entrepreneurship from the eyes of somebody who has “been there and done it” in India. This book, therefore, has some very interesting lessons to offer.

The one book all leaders must read…

One book that I always recommend to people at leadership levels is The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, and Jeff Cox.

One book everyone in your sector should pick up…

I would recommend The Goal by Eliyahu M. Goldratt and Jeff Cox to everyone irrespective of the sector. This book changed the way I looked at business and has a different message and lesson for every kind of sector — one should just know where to look for.

What kind of books would you normally buy while travelling?

I like to read a couple of books from different genres at the same time. First, it adds a little variety to my reading and second, if you don’t like one of the books you can stop it midway without having to wait for days without a book in your hand. The genres I like reading are management and fiction. Among fiction I particularly like Robert Ludlum, Michael Crichton and Frederick Forsyth.

Have you written any books? If not, do you plan to write in future?

I have not written any book but would definitely like to write fiction.

The books you grew up with? What did you like most about it?

I started reading as a hobby very early in life starting with Indrajaal and diamond comics, then the Famous Five and Hardy Boys, graduating thereafter to Alistair Maclean.

Your book shelf consists of….

Management books and thrillers.

Where do you shop for books?

I like to shop for books in bookstores. My favourite book shopping point is Landmark in Gurgaon.

Have your reading habits changed in the past four or five years? If so, how….

My reading has stuck to the genres I read. I also like to read paper-books rather than e-books. I am a big gadget freak but I like my books the old paper-way.

One book you cherish that you received as a gift… and who gave it to you

I had received my first copy of The Goal from Siddharth Shriram, Chairman SIEL Group. This is one gift that I really cherish as this book has been my best companion through many roles.
